Jobi: This is our fortress

29 January 2013

Skipper keen to attack the Chelsea game

Captain Jobi McAnuff has underlined the need to make Madejski Stadium a fortress - regardless of the opposition.

On the back of a positive run of form - elongated by our 4-0 FA Cup win over Sheffield United - Jobi believes we are most effective when we have a string of matches.

"I thought we did really well against Sheffield United - it was a great strike from Ledge and we were pretty comfortable," McAnuff said.

"There's no secret to it. It was a really stop-start beginning to the campaign for us with form, rearrangements and international breaks. We couldn't quite get a run of games and we feel we're at our best when we have a few games."

The next assignment at home comes in the form of the current Champions League holders. But with the backing of a sold out Madejski Stadium, McAnuff is confident - whichever team or formation Brian McDermott opts for.

"Of course, it's a great game for us - particularly after the results we've had. We can really go and attack the game," added Jobi.

"Our home form has been good of late - we've been winning games which is always good. We want to make it harder place as we can at Madejski Stadium and it's going to be difficult for any team coming here. Whether it's Chelsea or Sheffield United, we want to make it a fortress.

"I've played in the middle quite a lot towards the end of games. When we play three in the middle, it gives us another option. We just play wherever the gaffer feels is right - and we go out and do our best.

"It's all about being versatile - I'd like to think of got a few years left in these legs to go up and down the wing too!"
