Academy boss backs young stars
Academy chief Eamonn Dolan has paid tribute to his youngsters following a highly unfortunate FA Youth Cup loss to Bolton Wanderers.
The young Royals dominated for most of the game, but after a missed penalty and some contentious refereeing decisions fell to a 2-0 defeat.
“Traumas like that tonight is what makes players,” said Eamonn.
“You don’t want to have them – but we’ve got a good side there, there are some good players there that will go on and grace the first team. Nights like tonight are great because even with the disappointment, you learn.”
A two goal deficit certainly didn’t tell the story of the match, with the visitor’s strikes coming from a deflected effort and a second goal which was later shown to be offside.
“We would never say football is luck because we’re professional people and believe that you play to win.
“The penalty was a good save, and the first goal really the first time they got anywhere near our goal – however we kept going right until the end. Good luck to Bolton and Sammy Lee – all the guys are there are great people and we wish them well.”
