McDermott gives window updateThe transfer window closes at 11pm this Thursday, and Brian McDermott believes the Royals could be doing deals right up to the very last minute.
Traditionally, the Royals have had their business completed well in advance of the final hours of a transfer window, but the boss said at the weekend that there could be activity down to the final hour and Sky Sports' Jim White could be mentioning the Royals late on Thursday night!
Brian said, "We may be one of those clubs doing something really late, which isn't us normally, at ten to eleven! If it happens we'll be really pleased. Something could happen, in and out. We're looking at a couple of things. You know we've been working on things for a few weeks, whether it happens, we'll see."
The boss has already signed three players in this window; Stephen Kelly made his home debut at the weekend, Hope Akpan was cup-tied and Daniel Carrico was not involved as the manager explained on Reading FC Player and BBC Berkshire, "I spoke to Daniel on Friday. Putting him in against West Brom was a tall order, we've got to get him up to speed. He's Sporting Lisbon captain, you can see in training he's a good player and he just needs time. He needs time to train and to adjust. When he gets that he'll be a good player for us."
Brian was also asked about Jason Roberts' fitness, saying, "He's got a hip injury, he tried to come back but broke down. He's trying to get back as quickly as he can and will be back as soon as possible."
Lastly, Brian was also asked about Jimmy Kebe's joke tweet about Newcastle, and he said it was simply Jimmy's funny personality at work. "He's a very funny man, and it's interesting with that. People can take it as they want, and I hope it was taken in the right manner, I thought it was funny. In football sometimes at this level we all take ourselves far too seriously, but we don't here. Jimmy is a leader for me, a great guy, a funny guy and a great player. It's part of his character you don't always see. He's becoming a cult figure for us now!"
