Another win for U21s

17 July 2013

Dartford 0 - 4 Royals under-21s

Dartford 0
Reading U21s 4 (Ugwu 19, Tanner 28 & 45, Tshibola 44)

Reading's youngsters scored four as they comfortably saw off the pre-season challenge of Dartford at Princes Park on Tuesday night.

In a rampant first half, Gozie Ugwu tapped home the first before Craig Tanner struck for the second. Aaron Tshibola finished off a fantastic move before Tanner grabbed his second goal on the stroke of half time.

It was another excellent workout for our young lads, married with a very positive result which follows on nicely from their win at Basingstoke on Saturday.

Two different sides were named for each half - and both XIs were comfortable throughout. It was the first half team that secured the goals though, the first coming after 19 minutes.

Lawson D'Ath struck towards goal, and Ugwu was in the right place at the right time as he managed to get something on the ball and direct in into the net.

Goalkeeper Jon Henly had to be on guard to prevent an equaliser, but it wasn't long before Reading got a deserved second - as Tshibola cleverly played in Tanner, who dinked past Darts 'keeper Alan Julian.

The Royals were firmly in control, and bagged two goals in as many minutes before the half time whistle. After some brilliant team play on the edge of the box, Tshibola coolly finished to make it three - the best goal of the night.

Moments later, Tanner bagged his second goal of the evening just before the interval - in which 11 changes were made.

The high tempo and dominant possession remained in the second 45, where Aaron Kuhl dragged a shot wide.

Sub goalie Dan Lincoln did all he needed to do to preserve our clean sheet, and although the Royals hit the bar twice late on, 4-0 was how it remained.

A very pleasing night's work for our youngsters, who take on Newport County next Tuesday night. Click here for the U21s pre-season results/fixtures.
