Jordan shines in 1-1 draw
Young winger Jordan Obita
came in for praise from manager Nigel Adkins after our 1-1 friendly draw with Belenenses in Portugal.
Jordan - still only 19 years old - put in a good performance out well, linking up well with Wayne Bridge down the left flank. Read the match report by clicking here.
He nearly scored on a couple of occasions, and was also close to setting up goals with some dangerous crosses into the box.
Adkins told Reading FC Player after the match, "I thought Jordan Obita had a very good game, created opportunities and looked threatening.
"What a great bit of play when he was out wide, he had a mazy run in the first half and he linked up very well with Wayne Bridge in that first half. I was really pleased for him as he's had a good pre-season."
Also catching the eye was Adam Le Fondre, who had a bright 45 minutes and scored our late equaliser with a lovely touch and finish.
The boss said, "Wow! What a fantastic finish that was. He's had a good pre-season, like several in the team. If you've got a goalscorer, you've got a chance.
Reflecting on the game as a whole, Nigel said, "The players had an extremely hard training session on Tuesday, the intensity was like what they'd normally do in a game, so we put a group out tonight for 60 minutes and then as planned the rest of the players had 30 minutes. We'll flip that around on Friday. It's a structured pre-season, a structured trip.
"So it was a good workout for us. It was a good game, the pitch was nice, the conditions were good. We had good possession of the ball but gave a penalty away and then let the opposition have too much ball. We regained control, had a lot of play and created some good opportunities.
"We've conceded two goals now, both from penalties, and the opposition sat deep second half so the challenge was to break them down. We want to pass it but the challenge is to penetrate.
"Overall the trip so far has been good, where we're staying is very good, the training ground is excellent and the players have put a good stint in. We've got a good atmosphere, good team spirit and all in all it's gone well."
