Edwards heading for Glory

Midfielder makes Australian loan move

The Royals can confirm that young midfielder Ryan Edwards has joined Australian A-League side Perth Glory on a season-long loan.

The 19-year-old playmaker has signed a loan switch with the Aussie top flight club, who are managed by father Alistair Edwards, as he aims for a season of regular first team football in his native country.

Edwards currently has two years left on his professional contract at Madejski Stadium, which he signed ahead of the 2012/13 campaign after graduating from the Royals Academy. Ryan is also a product of the famous Australian Institute of Sport, an organisation which also produced a certain Adam Federici.

In 2012/13, Ryan played regularly for club and country as he appeared in the majority of our under-21s fixtures - as well as scoring and also captaining the Young Socceroos as they successfully qualified for the U20 World Cup in Turkey.

Glory secured a sixth-placed top flight finish last season and Ryan will link up with elder brother and former Royals youngster Cameron Edwards, who also spent a season at Madejski Stadium in 2011-12.

Perth begin their season in October with a home fixture against Adelaide United at the nib Stadium. We wish Ryan lots of luck ahead of the 2013-14 in Perth, and you can wish Ryan all the best with his loan move at @Redwards45 on Twitter!
