Midfielders Jimmy Kebe and Hal Robson-Kanu could both feature against Swansea City this Saturday.
Reading take on Michael Laudrup’s men, kick off 3pm, and manager Nigel Adkins says he is relishing a return to home turf.
“I'm very much looking forward to [Swansea], it'll be good to be back at Madejski Stadium, we're playing a good side and we will need to work hard,” said Adkins.
“Hal and Jimmy are back in training, doing ever so well and I'm looking for both of them to be involved at the weekend.”
It’s a double header for the Royals – who will also take on Bristol Rovers at the Memorial Stadium on Sunday, kick off 3pm.
“I'm going to mix the two teams around over the two games. I'm looking for [players to get] 90 minutes of football, so then on Monday everyone is in the same position physically, looking ahead to the start of the season, that's the important message.
“Overall there's a feel good factor about the place. We know when the season starts we'll be fit and strong.”
