The Opposition
Though the Robins suffered relegation from the Championship in 2012/13, they are among the favourites to return to the second tier. Managed by Sean O'Driscoll, City are hoping to be in good stead for the new season, and have acquired the services of former Arsenal man Jay Emmanuel-Thomas. They have lost two and won two of their pre-season tests so far.

When we last met
Jason Roberts scored from the spot on his Reading debut, against Bristol City in January 2012. Early that season saw the Royals most recent trip to Ashton Gate - a memorable one for Reading supporters. Late goals from Jobi McAnuff, Adam Le Fondre and Mathieu Manset overturned a two goal deficit to win 3-2.
