'Royston is explosive'

Adkins excited by new man

Royals boss Nigel Adkins believes Royston Drenthe can become a fans' favourite at Madejski Stadium thanks to his explosive ability.

The former Real Madrid man moved to Madejski Stadium this summer and has already built up real support among our fan base, first and foremost because of his ability on the pitch but also his integration with the squad and the club as a whole.

He has the ability to be a real matchwinner in the Football League, and Nigel is managing the Dutchman in a bid to get the most out of his incredible talent.

Nigel told the press after our first friendly in Portugal, "Royston has worked extremely hard in pre-season. We need to get him to a level of fitness but when you watch him and his attacking play in the third of the pitch, he's explosive.

"He will be so exciting for our supporters and we've got to make sure we keep building his fitness levels. Firstly because we don't want him to break down, he's explosive and any player like that can pick up something.

"He will be very exciting, that is for sure."

"Tonight Danny Williams has played as well, we changed the partnerships around in midfield. Wayne Bridge, you saw some of his quality and that will be very important for us this season."
