"We've waited all summer"

30 July 2013

Akpan excited for new season

Royals midfielder Hope Akpan is thrilled that the waiting is nearly over for the start of the 13/14 Sky Bet Championship campaign.

It is just a matter of days now until Nigel Adkins' men take on Ipswich Town at Madejski Stadium on the opening day - and, like all Royals supporters, Hope can't wait for it to all start again.

"We've waited all summer for the league to come around again. Hopefully we can start well, kick on and do well," Akpan said to Reading FC Player.

"Pre-season went really well, the lads have taken on board what the manager is trying to do. There are some good signs that we are progressing and we can't wait to press on with the season."

The former Crawley man was among the players donning the new home kit last Saturday against Swansea City - and Hope enjoyed his role playing just behind the striker at Madejski Stadium.

"Swansea are a good side, but we got important minutes under our belts so that's the main positive we take out of the game," he added.

"I played in an advanced midfield role which I have done before - I had a few chances which on another day, I'd score from at least two. Hopefully it's a sign that I'll be getting those chances again this season."
