Anton on the future

"The right environment"

Owner Anton Zingarevich says it's important that the club has the 'right environment' in order to attract new players to Reading.

The Royals are striving to maintain their Category One EPPP status, which would secure the Academy's grading as one of the best in the country.

"The training ground and the Academy are crucial," Anton explained. "We are in the process of getting the categorisation and hopefully we can get Category One status, which allows us to have fixtures against the Cat One teams which is important for the Academy.

"But one of the difficulties in obtaining that status is the infrastructure, and our infrastructure at the training ground is not really at Cat One status - but what they Academy achieved on the pitch last season and the players we have brought through the Academy in recent years should hopefully allow us to get Cat One status."

Reading have agreed in principle a contract with Bearwood to purchase land and build a new training ground, subject to planning permission, and Anton hopes to have the best possible environment in which the players can perform in.

"That was one of the reasons why we started looking at the new training ground and obviously that's important," he added.

"We need to have the right environment for the players to perform, but also to attract new players. Hopefully we will move to a new training ground, but of course, it's subject to planning and different things."

Anton was speaking with Sir John Madejski on Reading 107 - you can listen to all three podcasts by clicking here.
