McCleary and Mariappa play 90 minutesGarath McCleary and Adrian Mariappa played the full 90 minutes for Jamaica as they were narrowly defeated by Mexico in a World Cup 2014 qualifier in Kingston.
The Reggae Boyz coped with the Mexicans throughout large spells of the game, with Mariappa and his defence effectively shutting out the visitors during the first half, with only Manchester United striker Javier Hernandez seriously threatening on goal.
But a header shortly after the break from Aldo de Nigris proved to be the difference, and elevated El Tricolor to the top of the American and Caribbean group. Royals skipper Jobi McAnuff didn't feature for Jamaica following the birth of his child.
With still six games remaining, the Boyz will look to pick themselves up for their crunch game with the United States on Friday morning, kick off 2.30am BST. After that, they'll face Honduras away from home on the morning of Tuesday June 11th.
Elsewhere, Kaspars Gorkss' Latvia came from 3-1 down to draw with Turkey in a friendly last week. Next up for Latvia is a World Cup qualifier with Bosnia-Herzegovina, on Friday at 5.30pm.
