"Club are showing intent"

Pearce on Royals ambition

Alex Pearce believes the Royals' summer activity so far clearly signals their intent for the 2013/14 season.

Deals have already been agreed to sign Wayne Bridge and Royston Drenthe - and speaking to Reading FC Player after signing a new deal at the club, Pearce was adamant that the sole ambition for this season is to seal a return to the Barclays Premier League.

"It certainly is," Alex said. "I think with the intent the club are showing, there are some positive signs that we can make a promotion push this year.

"It gives everyone a lift around the place when the club is showing intent. The club is certainly doing that this summer and I'm pleased to be a part of it."

The defender firmly believes the club have the players and staff in place to mount a serious promotion campaign - including owner Anton Zingarevich, who has been instrumental in our positive movements this summer.

"We want to be at the top fighting for promotion, and there's no doubt that we can do that. We've certainly got the players and we've got the staff in place as well."

"He (Anton) has been great since he's come in, working with the Chairman and everyone so long may that continue."
