Ryan called up for Australia in U20 tournamentRoyals youngster Ryan Edwards has been called up to play for the Young Socceroos at the U20 2013 World Cup.
The midfielder has been regularly involved in Australia's young sides and has now earned his place at the prestigious global tournament held in Turkey from 21st June to 13th July.
The Qantas Young Socceroos qualified for the FIFA U-20 World Cup Turkey 2013 having made the semi-finals of the AFC U-19 Youth Championships in the United Arab Emirates last year - in which Ryan was a key part of.
The 19-year-old took to Twitter to express his delight at being named in the 21-man squad:
The squad will assemble in Sydney on Friday 7 June and will have two days of training in Sydney before playing an international friendly match against New Zealand on Monday 10 June at WIN Stadium in Wollongong.
The Qantas Young Socceroos will fly out to Turkey on Tuesday 11 June to hold their final pre-tournament training camp in Antalya, Turkey from 12-17 June where they will play their final international friendly match prior to the tournament against the Chilean U-20 Men’s National on the morning of Monday 17 June.
They will then move to their tournament base camp in the Black Sea coastal city of Trabzon to prepare for their opening match against, Colombia on 22 June. Their second match of the tournament will be against El Salvador on 25 June before their final group match against hosts Turkey on 28 June. Their games against El Salvador and Turkey will be broadcast live on British Eurosport.
Earlier this season, Ryan said: "It's a massive honour to play for my country. Every young boy who loves the game wants to play for their country and I've been lucky enough to do that. It's great to be involved with the national team - I'm going to carry on working hard and hopefully I'll be successful."
Meanwhile, young defensive trio Shane Griffin, Sean Long and Pierce Sweeney are all involved in the Republic of Ireland U19s squad to play in their UEFA Elite Round in Serbia.
Ireland will face their Group 2 opponents Switzlerland this Thursday (6th June), Slovakia on Saturday and hosts Serbia next Tuesday - all games kicking off at 4.30pm BST.
