Royals in action this weekend

There has been no break from football for plenty of Royals stars this summer, as a number of players prepare for more international action over the weekend.

Any Reading fans struggling to sleep can watch that one on! Jobi McAnuff has missed this series of qualifiers following the recent birth of his first child.

In World Cup Qualifying Group C Stephen Kelly’s Republic of Ireland are at home to the Faroe Islands at the Aviva Stadium, with the Royals full back named on the bench by Giovanni Trapattoni for the 7.45pm kick off – live on Sky Sports 1.

Shane Long is suspended for the game, though Academy product Simon Cox is set to start.

Elsewhere, Kaspars Gorkss is likely to captain Latvia on Friday afternoon in a Group G home clash with Bosnia, kick off 5.30pm.

On Thursday afternoon Pierce Sweeney captained Ireland Under 19s to a 2-2 draw with Switzerland in the UEFA U19 Championships Elite Round, whilst full back Shane Griffin, who recently earned a pro deal at Madejski Stadium after graduating through the Academy, also played 90 minutes. Fellow Royal Sean Long was an unused substitute. The Emerald Isle are in action again on Saturday against Slovakia with a 4.30pm kick off.

Finally, winger Ryan Edwards is currently with the Australian Under 20s squad as they finalise their preparations for the U20 World Cup in Turkey later this month.  The Young Socceroos will take part in a warm up game against the Junior All Whites (New Zealand’s U20s team in the early hours of Monday morning.
