Ryan scores in 5-0 warm up!

10 June 2013

Edwards on the scoresheet for Young Socceroos

Royals midfielder Ryan Edwards helped Australia's U20 to a 5-0 victory over New Zealand in the Young Socceroos' final warm-up game ahead of the World Cup.

Edwards found the net late on as Australia prepared for the U20 global tournament, which takes place in Turkey from June 21st, in the finest possible style.

Ryan's inch perfect strike on 76 minutes completed the five goal rout after Adam Taggart's hat-trick and Jamie Maclaren's goal sent the Qantas Young Socceroos on their way.

The Young Socceroos depart for Turkey tomorrow (Tuesday) for a pre-tournament training camp where they will play Chile's U20s in a friendly in Antalya on Monday 17 June, before beginning their World Cup campaign against Colombia in Trabzon on Saturday 22 June.

Meanwhile, Garath McCleary and Adrian Mariappa both put in a good shift for Jamaica on Saturday morning, but the Reggae Boyz' World Cup hopes were dealt a blow as USA stole all three points with an injury time winner.

Kaspars Gorkss got some more international minutes under his belt, though Latvia were beaten 5-0 by group leaders Bosnia - with Manchester City striker Edin Dzeko on the scoresheet.

Youthful defensive trio Sean Long, Pierce Sweeney and Shane Griffin all played in Ireland U19s 2-2 draw with Slovakia. Sweeney captained the side, while right back Long assisted for one of ROI's goals.

Jamaica continue their fight for 2014 World Cup qualification as they play away at Honduras on Wednesday, 2am BST, while our Irish lads will play their final group game against Serbia at 4.30pm on Tuesday.
