Dolan: 'Down to business'

15 March 2013

Eamonn determined to get a result

Eamonn Dolan believes that the Royals have a firm belief that they can preserve their Premier League status.

With table topping Manchester United lying in wait on Saturday evening, Dolan told his pre-match press conference that the club are relishing the challenge that lies ahead.

“The group earned the right to play in this great league and you don’t want to surrender that,” he said.

“I think Reading Football Club deserve to be in the Barclays Premier League next year. That’s our aim and I’m very confident that we’ll do that. I love football. I was excited on Wednesday when our 18s played Fulham. Of course I’m going to be excited to go to Old Trafford, like everyone at Reading. With Sir Alex – they’re the greatest football club in the world, he’s the greatest manager of all time. But I won’t be thinking that tomorrow. It’s business on Saturday and we aim to get a result.

“Getting any result in football thrills me, always. But going and getting a result at Old Trafford at this particular time would be fantastic.”

Naturally Eamonn was asked if he considered himself a candidate for the job in the long term – but gave a strong answer that reflected the club’s mentality.

“I can only think as far as the next game and that’s the honest answer. I think you’ve got to understand the ethos of this club. In this week of all weeks, if an individual is opportunistic, thinking of themselves rather than the group – I’d be very disappointed if anyone was like that.”
