Fridjonsson and Urbancic training with Royals
Reading Football Club are set to sign two promising young Icelanders this summer, both of whom have been allowed to train with the Royals by their respective clubs for the remainder of the season.
16-year-old Tomas Urbancic and 17-year-old Samuel Fridjonsson have linked up with the club’s Academy early, ahead of agreed moves to Berkshire in the summer.
Born in Reykjanesbaer, Fridjonsson can play in defence or midfield. He turned 17 last month and has already represented his country at under-19 level, having scored two goals in 11 appearances for his national under-17 side.
He will join the Royals from Icelandic Premier League side Keflavik FC on a professional contract in June, a two-year deal which will be completed when the transfer window reopens and international clearance can be secured.
Reykjavik-born Urbancic is an attacking midfielder who can also play on the wing. He will initially join us from Vikingur on a two-year scholarship contract before spending a further season on a professional contract with us – keeping him at Reading until 2016.
The 5’9” starlet has represented Iceland at under-17 level and the transfer will be completed and ratified on Monday 1st July.
We would like to thank Keflavik FC and Vikingur FC for allowing Tomas and Samuel to come to Reading early, to train with our Academy and acclimatise before their moves are finalised.
