On loan and in action

Royals in action this weekend

The Premier League and the Championship take a break from action this weekend as international matters take centre stage.

But, snow-permitting, there are a few Royals who will be in domestic action this weekend as our loanees continue to impress in League One and League Two of the Football League.

Jordan Obita will aim to ease Oldham’s relegation fears under new manager Lee Johnson when they travel to fellow strugglers Shrewsbury. The Latics lie only a point outside the drop zone, but a win at New Meadow would bring them to within two points of their hosts this weekend.

Centre back Michael Hector will continue his automatic promotion charge with Cheltenham when the Robins travel to struggling Barnet. Last weekend Hector helped his loan side keep a clean sheet in a 3-0 win over Rotherham and Cheltenham are only two points behind third-placed Burton Albion and will be hoping for a victory to keep up the pressure on the top three. And Hector has already kept a clean sheet against Edgar Davids’ Bees at Underhill this season – winning 1-0 with Aldershot there on New Year’s Day.

Jake Taylor hosts Crewe Alexandra with Crawley, who picked up a 2-2 draw at Walsall last weekend but whose promotion campaign has been hit by a recent spate of draws.

Lawson D’Ath scored on his Exeter debut last weekend in a 4-1 win over Bradford City and the midfielder will be hoping to repeat that goalscoring start when they take their promotion challenge to fellow top six side Rotherham.

At the other end of the League Two table, Angus MacDonald’s Torquay are now unbeaten in their last three and will be hoping that three points against second from bottom York could help them steer clear of the drop.
