Madejski Stadium celebrates 125 years of army football
We are also extremely grateful for the generous support the FA has given the Army FA, both financially with a donation of £10,000 to help get the event off the ground and in providing an exciting team to play against.
We are also delighted that HRH Duke of Cambridge, President of the FA, has chosen to support this event. The Duke said: “As President of The FA, I am delighted our anniversary year is being used to mark the 125th birthday of Army football.
“Exciting plans are being put in place for a joint FA and Army FA celebration match at Reading on the 18th May with all proceeds going to forces charities.
“My thanks go to all who are supporting this fantastic project. It really promises to be a landmark event in what is a major year for football in this country. Good luck to everyone involved.”
The match at Reading also forms part of a challenging schedule for the Army FA. Later in May a representative tour is planned for Brazil to coincide with the Confederations Cup, which comes immediately after England’s end of season friendly against Brazil in Rio.
Tickets are keenly priced at £12 (£6 for concessions) and we are aiming for a full house at Reading. All proceeds from the match will go to Service charities that promote sporting opportunities for our soldiers, including our wounded warriors who play
sport as part of their rehabilitation.
The beneficiaries are The Royal British Legion and the Team Army Sports Foundation.
