Madejski Stadium takes on Celebrity tournament

Madejski Stadium is set to host the southern leg of this year's Celebrity Soccer Six football tournament!

The much loved competition will take place on Sunday May 26th when stars from the world of TV, music, sport, film and entertainment will descend on to Berkshire for the world's biggest celebrity football tournament.

It's the first time in five years that Madejski Stadium have hosted the Soccer Six event, and organisers are expecting it to be a huge success in Berkshire.

Founder Mark Abery said, "We are delighted to be bringing our iconic celebrity football event to Reading and hope that the town and the region really get behind the event. It is a great football club with beautiful facilities and rich history and traditions and I'm sure the celebrity players will chomping at the bit to come to such a great stadium and footballing area."

Previous Soccer Six events have been held at Anfield, Goodison Park, Stamford Bridge, St James' Park, Villa Park, St Andrews, Elland Road and Upton Park since it was first launched at Mile End Stadium in 1995 with Oasis, Blur and Pulp at the height of Britpop. Since then the event has attracted a host of famous faces with everyone from Robbie Williams and Rod Stewart to The Wanted, JLS and Plan B lacing up their boots. Over 140 celebrities take part at each Celebrity Soccer Six, including a celebrity girls tournament and the club are looking forward to welcoming Soccer Six to Reading.

This year's Celebrity Soccer Six tournament supports Hearts and Goals, a joint charity initiative between The Lovefootball Family and Arrhythmia Alliance, led by Fabrice Muamba for Bolton Community Trust.

Money raised will go towards providing lifesaving training and purchasing defibrillators for sports clubs, community centres and busy public spaces locally and across the UK via Hearts and Goals and The Lovefootball Family.

Reading spokeperson Ross Jeavons says, "We are delighted to be hosting the tournament and I am sure it will be a great success and fun as well. The monies raised from the event will be vital in achieving the aims and objectives of Hearts and Goals which will go on to save the lives of people within our communities. This is a worthy cause initially inspired by Fabrice Muamba and we hope everyone gets involved in supporting what will be a fantastic event."

Hearts and Goals ambassador Fabrice Muamba said, "Having access to a defibrillator is ten times more effective than CPR, for every minute that passes without a defibrillator chances of survival reduce by 14%. It is essential more defibrillators are accessible in public places and we are delighted with the support of Soccer Six and Reading Football Club."
