Youth side's victoryA young Reading FC XI earned an excellent 2-1 win over Vfl Wolfsburg on Friday evening, and followed it up with a 3-1 win against Eintracht Frankfurt in the Stemwede Tournament.
Jordan Obita scored both goals against Wolfsburg as we came back from 1-0 down, and we also held on admirably after a late red card.
Lee Herron and Royals legend Michael Gilkes are coaching the team out in Germany, and Gilkes said of the first game, "The boys showed great heart and determination to grind out a win.
"We went 1-0 down due to a scramble in the penalty box but replied with great play.
"Precision passing into the frontmen led to the equaliser, Webb, Keown, Oliyide and Tshibola involved to give Obita the chance to score from six yards.
"Our switch of play was of the highest order and the second goal saw Shaughnessy find Obita with a 25-yard switch; Jordan's control and finish was excellent.
"Stuart Moore put in a man of the match display in goal, stopping one-on-ones and also a top corner free kick among others.
"I felt we were unlucky with refereeing decisions thoroughout the game, and there were bookings for Partridge, Sweeney and Keown before Partridge was controversially booked again late on. Overall it was a great defensive display with 10 men against a physical side.
"The whole team display for the last 15 minutes was first class with Dickie coming on to bolster the back four. We still created chances with ten men, Obita was exciting and Webb was unlucky with a one-on-one."
The tournament runs across the weekend; stay tuned to the website for more details.
