Adkins: Let's excite the fans

8 November 2013

"Make them feel 10 feet tall"

Nigel Adkins has urged his players to put on a show for their supporters on Saturday afternoon, and believes a tough result last time out could act as a wake up call.

Harry Redknapp's Queens Park Rangers are in town for a 12.15pm kick off at Madejski Stadium, as the Sky Sports cameras capture one of the biggest fixtures of the Championship calendar.

"It’ll be an exciting one, and what we’ve got to do is to give our supporters something to shout about and enjoy," said Adkins.

"We applauded the supporters who went up to Sheffield last week, we appreciate how hard it is to travel up and down the country – and at the weekend everyone’s got to be behind the players. We’ve got to back the players and make them feel 10 foot tall when they cross that line. Things won't always go our way, but what we've got to do is back the players and give them every opportunity to excite the supporters. The players' mind-set has been good throughout the week, we’ve had some honest conversations. We’ve got to go out there with a kick up the backside from last week."

The boss also revealed that Billy Sharp has had a full week of training under his belt, though Danny Williams has had a slight reaction after his return from a foot injury earlier this week.

"We’ve still got several players out injured, one or two little niggles. Danny dropped out of training, his foot was a little bit sore still. He has been sidelined for a long time so it’s frustrating. We’re pleased with Billy this week, obviously he traveled up to Sheffield and did a bit on the pitch before the game as well – making sure he was integrated with the squad. He’s trained well this week."
