Adkins on Rovers threat

22 November 2013

Manager on Blackburn game

Nigel Adkins expects Blackburn Rovers to provide a tough test on Saturday, a side who he believes will also be in the race for promotion come the end of the season.

Rovers' star striker Jordan Rhodes is touch-and-go for the game at Ewood Park, but the manager believes that our opponents will be a huge threat whether the Scotland international is available or not.

"We know it's going to be a challenging game - it always is in any game in the Championship," he told Reading FC Player. "We're going away up to Lancashire, Blackburn are expected to be up there. They've got good players and a good manager and seem to be all settled.

"They've got a goalscorer there who has played all the minutes. Is he injured, is he not? We expect him to be fit and expect him to be a massive threat as all the players on the pitch for Blackburn will be."

The manager also praised the players who have returned from the international break ahead of Saturday's 3pm kick off with Blackburn.

"Baird played centre half for Northern Ireland, we've got Stephen Kelly who played 90 minutes for the Republic and got a clean sheet against Poland and it was great for Pearcey to get that last half hour and a clean sheet.

"We've got a good strong character in Alex and a young man who is improving all the time - we're really pleased with him.

"We've also got the two lads representing Wales in Chrissy Gunter and Hal Robson-Kanu, and we've had Kaspars Gorkss captaining his national team, and it was a good week for all of them."
