Gunter on the rise

13 November 2013

Chris away with Wales

Royals defender Chris Gunter will aim to build on his excellent form as he plays for Wales this coming weekend.

Chris became Wales' youngest player to reach 50 caps during the last round of international games, and he is only six games short of 300 career appearances. And all this despite having only turned 24 in July.

Manager Nigel Adkins once again praised Gunter's athleticism after Saturday's draw with QPR, and highlighted his movement down the right that gave space infield for goalscorer Garath McCleary.

Chris has also shown versatility in recent weeks, having lined up at centre back for his nation in a home win over Wales and a draw away to Belgium.

Also very much a mainstay of the Welsh team now is winger Hal Robson-Kanu, who also started both of those games and has cemented himself as a regular in the side, with 17 caps to his name already.

Hal is now preparing for a Saturday friendly at home to Finland in Cardiff, kick off 6pm and live on Sky Sports Two.

Also away at the moment are Alex Pearce and Stephen Kelly with Ireland, who face Latvia on Friday and Poland on Tuesday.

Kaspars Gorkss will captain the Latvians on Friday night, and they then have a friendly at Yeovil on Tuesday; the Glovers managed by ex-Latvia boss Gary Johnson.

In addition Chris Baird's Northern Ireland face Turkey, while Jonathan Henly is with Scotland u21s and Harry Cardwell, Zak Jules, Tom McIntyre and Jake Sheppard are training with the Scots' u18s. Jake Cooper is on standby for England u19s.
