'Hard work paid off'

26 November 2013

Hyam delighted to sign

Defender Dom Hyam expressed his delight after signing his first professional contract with the Royals on Monday evening.

The 17-year-old put pen to paper on a deal that will keep him at Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2016, tangible reward for the youngster who was part of the successful under-18s side who reached the Academy final last season, and now vice-captains the team in this campaign.

"I'm a centre half, I like to win my headers, defend well and score from set pieces as well - which is a bonus," Dom told Reading FC Player. "I'm delighted to have signed - this what all the hard work is for.

"It's always a pleasure to captain the side, I've been here a long time so I know the boys well and it's a good feeling. We just fell at the last hurdle last season unfortunately, but hopefully we can do just as well or maybe better this time."

You could get an immediate glimpse of Hyam in action as the under-21s take on Queens Park Rangers at Madejski Stadium, with parking and admission free of charge to supporters. Click here for more.

"Hopefully I'll be involved in the under-21s game, so it will be nice for supporters to come and watch us play. It would be a good opportunity to show the fans what I've got.
