Boss looks to long campaignManager Nigel Adkins has one eye on an expanding fixture list and is making sure we are as prepared as possible for the challenges ahead.
It takes the Royals three months to play 12 fixtures in September, October and November, but we play 12 matches in the next two months of December & January, then 13 games across March & April as the Championship takes full flow.
The boss has already studied the pattern of games in a bid to manage his team and squad effectively, and said, "We've got a challenging fixture list coming up, as does everyone going into Christmas. We've got to make sure we're still in the race, especially March and April, when the strongest squad does it.
"Every game is a challenge, you have to be competitive. Not too high when you win or too low when you lose. You stay consistent, work hard, prepare and keep going. You deal with injury and suspensions, and when people come back it can strengthen the squad. You play a quarter of the season in March and April, which is key.
"The Championship is a fantastic division, lots of teams who've already been in the Premier League with aspirations to get back. Every game you have to bang on it, that's how challenging it is."
