Academy star pens professional dealReading Football Club are delighted to announce that Academy star Liam Kelly has signed a professional contract with the Royals, which will keep him at Madejski Stadium until the summer of 2016.
The 17-year-old playmaker, who has caught the eye for the Royals under-18s and under-21s sides - as well as at youth level for the Republic of Ireland, has put pen to paper on a two-and-a-half year deal.
Liam is another born and bred Reading player having been at the club since the age of eight, and is the latest youngster from a long list to have come through our successful youth system at the Royals.
"It's a great feeling to have signed for my boyhood club," Liam told Reading FC Player. "Having seen the likes of Jake Taylor, Jordan Obita and Aaron Tshibola been given their chance, it gives us great motivation to work hard."
Royals supporters may already be familiar with the second year scholar, after just two of his goals this season accumulated a combined total of over 1,000,000 views on YouTube.
But there is more to his game than phenomenal goals and tricks, as Kelly has shown week in week out that he is industrious with and without the ball and works hard for the good of his team - qualities that have rewarded the versatile attacker with his first professional deal.
"It's really good news," added Academy Director Eamonn Dolan. "He's got himself a new professional contract which is deserved. We believe he's going to continue to do well, work hard and give evidence. I'm sure he will go on to sign bigger and better contracts in the future."
"I remember seeing him as a nine-year-old and thinking wow, what a player. The manager puts great faith in young players, as we have seen with the likes of Jordan Obita in recent games. That's the philosophy of the club, it's committed to be a good place for young players."
