Full back on left side partnership
Jordan Obita has hailed the influence of Wayne Bridge, as the young winger continues to form a partnership with the former England full back.
The Academy product has cemented his place in the first team in recent weeks, and after initially showcasing his composure in the centre of midfield – has played ahead of the vastly experienced defender in recent weeks.
“Wayne Bridge is the best left back in the league I think,” said Obita.
“His quality is unbelievable, he’s won the Premier League, he gets forward and gets back – the partnership with Bridgey is amazing. It can’t get much better than that. I like to play centrally, but if the gaffer wants me to play left midfield then I’m happy to play there.”
The 19-year-old has arguably surpassed all expectations by breaking through into the first team this season, but seems far from over-awed by his rapid accent – and is already setting his sights on improvements.
“I’ve just been trying to push the manager in games and training, I think I’ve been doing that well. Now I’ve got to try and cement it and try and make sure I’m in the side all the time - I just want to keep getting better and better every day. I practice after or before training, and hopefully it will pay off. I feel more like a first team player now than I ever have done; it feels good, I’ve probably surpassed my initial targets and now I want to make new ones.”
