Women add to squad

Three new signings

Reading FC Women have added three new players to their squad ahead of the new Super League season, which starts in March.

After making the prestigious acquisition of Jane Ludlow as manager, the Royals have brought in no less than seven new players.

Factfile of our new additions:

Alex Keown


As a player: Alex is a versatile, two-footed defender who can play anywhere across the back line. She reads the game well and also likes to get forward.

Has played for: Arsenal Centre of Excellence U14, Watford Centre of Excellence, West Ham, Barnet.
 
In quotes: "I'm really excited to be at Reading. Over the years, Reading have grown and grown into an amazing side.

"The attraction of Jane (Ludow) being manager is there. I knew her from Arsenal - she's been there, done it and got the t-shirt. And with Kelly (Chambers) alongside her, hopefully it will be a great partnership and help us win medals and trophies."



Connie Short

As a player: Originally a left back, Connie has been operating as a central defender in training. Likes to attack, good in the air and vocal.

Has played for: Chelsea Development Squad, Bristol.

In quotes: "The side winning the league last year was brilliant, and now with Jane coming in everyone is really excited. The culture is different here to what I'm used to - you can see why the team did so well last season.

"My sister knew Jane through her Arsenal connections, and after she spoke to her I was convinced to sign - and so far it has been the best decision."

Leigh Nicol

As a player: Central midfielder who tends to get forward well. Good attacking player with plenty of composure.
 
Has played for: Celtic and Arsenal.

In quotes: "I'm delighted to be here - Jane is the best coach I've ever worked under. I'm so excited for the new season.

"Training has been really tough, but fun and serious at the right times. The intensity has be great and even know there are so many new player it feels like I've been here for years!"
