Two late goals seal dramatic winArsenal U18s 1 (Mavididi 35)
Reading U18s 2 (Hyam 90, Fridjonsson 90)
Stoppage time goals from Dom Hyam and Sammi Fridjonsson sealed a dramatic 2-1 win for our under-18s away at Arsenal at London Colney.
The Royals were unlucky to be trailing the Gunners after Steff Mavididi tucked home, following up an excellent save made by our goalkeeper Stuart Moore.
David Dodds' youngsters almost replied before half time. Striker Harry Cardwell played in Liam Kelly through on goal, but he was denied by Gunners stopper Matthew Macey in a one-on-one.
Arsenal had a few chances in the second half but Reading were the better side, and caused the hosts numerous problems - particular from Kelly's set-piece deliveries.
But it was from a Kelly free-kick, swung in from the right, that the Royals would find a late equaliser. Dom Hyam got on the end of the cross, and powered a header emphatically past Macey to deservedly level.
And our youngsters weren't finished just then. With a substantial period of time added on due to a Gunners injury, the Royals were able to score a dramatic winner in the 98th minute.
Iceland international Sammi Fridjonsson, only making his second ever appearance for the under-18s, poked the ball from a goalmouth scramble following a corner - sparking jubilant Royals celebrations at London Colney.
Our under-18s are now up to 5th in the Barclays Under 18s Premier League South - click here to view our Academy section. Highlights will appear soon on Reading FC Player.
