Adkins hails Dyche influence

Manager on Burnley visit

Nigel Adkins has admitted that the Royals will face a tough challenge at Turf Moor this Saturday, but isn’t paying too much attention to the league table as of yet.

The Clarets currently top of the Sky Bet Championship, setting up one of the most eye catching fixtures in this weekend’s Football League calendar.

“Great credit to Sean in what he’s gone and done there. He is someone that I know, he’s done a great job and was very unfortunate when he lost his job at Watford because he was doing great things there,” said Adkins.

“He’s rejuvenated and galvanised Burnley Football Club. The way they’re playing football is great. Vokes and Ings are both on form, the big man and little man complement each other ever so well. Burnley play some good football, a variety in the way they go and pass it and it’s going to be a challenging fixture. We have to set a challenge for them. Now they’re sitting top they’ve got to deal with the pressures that come with being up there. But the league table will change all the way through up until the final week. I said I wanted to be in the race and we’re in the race – we’re always striving for that perfect performance.”

The manager also had words of praise for Danny Guthrie, who was nominated for the league’s Player of the Month award – narrowly missing out to Ipswich's David McGoldrick.

“That’s pleasing for me – especially when you consider he’s been carrying a bit of an injury as well for the last couple of weeks. But he’s put himself out for the team which is massively important. His leadership skills have come to the forefront all the time, he has undoubted ability and his work rate has been there too. When the team has needed it at certain times he’s been the one to drive us on and get us playing, then of course he’s scored a couple of fantastic goals.”
