Goalkeeper positive ahead of Barnsley

Alex McCarthy says that the squad is relishing tonight's game with Barnsley after a run of satisfying results.

It's four clean sheets out of five for the Academy graduate, who says there are plenty of positives to take into the Sky Bet Championship fixture with the Tykes.

"In the dressing room everyone is buzzing, especially after getting another clean sheet," the 23-year-old said after the Birmingham win.

"Confidence is really high and there's loads of positives we can take into the next game."

The reliable shot-stopper also thanked the fans for their support, as they are regularly seen and heard chanting 'England's number one' on their feet.

"Ever since I've been here the fans have been tremendous, I've got a lot of respect for them and I'm really happy that the sing my name."

McCarthy also recently took time out to visit New Scotland Hill Primary School, to meet and greet a number of excited youngsters - after Hayden Prince of Year 6 won a Young Royals competition for the chance to win a player visit to his school.

Alex joined in his class, took part in a Q&A, handed out signed pictures to the young fans then poses for loads of photos. The Royals 'keeper also had a special gift for Hayden - a brand new goalkeeper shirt which he signed!
