Goalscorer talks us through his fifth of the seasonRoyals striker Adam Le Fondre scored his fifth goal of the season at an important time in today's win over Doncaster Rovers.
"I remember G [Garath McCleary] got the ball on the half way line and he sprinted forward - he's electric on the ball," he explained exclusively to Reading FC Player.
"I just made a run off the defender and he slipped it through to me. I think the defender got a nick, but thankfully it came to me.
"I was thinking about shooting first time with my left foot, but I changed my mind and I just toe-poked it through the defender's legs, and it managed to trickle over the line.
"It was my fifth of the season and it was great to score at home - and nice to get one in the first half, I don't normally get many in the first half."
Alfie was only one of four different Royals goalscorers this afternoon in a comfortable victory over Rovers and the frontman is hoping this result is just the start of things to come in front of our home fans.
"Hopefully this result will send out a message to the other teams in the Championship that the Madejski is going to become a fortress this season," he said.
"It was a good performance and in the first 25 minutes we were brilliant. Their goal subdued us a little bit and early in the second half we struggled a little bit.
"We created a number of chances but we didn't take full advantage of them - from where I was, Jordan's was a goal, but we didn't get that one, and if we had I think we would have been out of sight early doors.
"When they scored it was totally against the run of play, and even at 2-1 it was a bit edgy. But the third goal eased everyone."
"But we got the third goal that killed the game and we went on to get another one - Pav scored a great goal, he was fantastic today the big man, and he fully deserved his goal."
