Boss thanks supporters

28 October 2013

Adkins on a great day

Manager Nigel Adkins hailed an 'outstanding' Open Day at Madejski Stadium.

A couple of thousands supporters turned out to watch an open training session, get autographs from their heroes and take part in a large number of activities across the Stadium all day.

The manager gave his time throughout the entire day, giving running commentary to supporters with a microphone as training took place, before holding a Q&A session with local coaches in the afternoon.

He said, "Today has been outstanding and an ideal opportunity to interact with everybody.

"Supporters are the life and soul of the football club, and we're well aware of our responsibilities, today has been ideal and thank you to everyone who came down.

"Youngsters have been able to come along to see the training and also the intensity. We've got some excellent professionals here. The lads are out there training so we had the microphone just to explain what was going on.

"It's been a really good day, there were some concerns about the weather but it was a really great turn out. There were lots of smiles on faces, loads of activities, interaction is what it's all about. There were loads of activities, I had a good Q&A with local coaches myself.

"This is a community club, everyone is together, the players appreciate that and the supporters too. Everyone was in great spirits."

Lastly, Chris Gunter entered the pitch wearing a Halloween mask, which raised a few laughs, and the boss said, "A few people told me it was an improvement!"
