Hal on a hard-fought draw

2 October 2013

Goalscorer reflects on important point

Hal Robson-Kanu opened his Royals account for the season with a superb left-footed effort at Oakwell on Tuesday evening but it wasn't enough to take all three points away from Barnsley.

"Coming away to Barnsley, a side who were bottom of the league and are fighting for survival, on a Tuesday night here, it was always going to be difficult," he told local press after the midweek draw.

"It was a very competitive game throughout the ninety minutes. We got ourselves 1-0 up and tried our best to hold onto it, but conceded near the end. But it was an important goal for me - it's always nice to get the first one.

"I had an injury in pre-season, but I worked hard and the manager gave me time to get back to full fitness, and now I'm more than ready to put in performances like I have in the last couple of games. And tonight, as a team, it was important that we took a point away."

The Royals, unbeaten in six now, face another long trip back up north to Burnley on Saturday and Robson-Kanu is relishing the chance to add to his goal tally and our points total at Turf Moor.

"We take a draw away from here and move on," he continued. "It's about momentum, keeping that consistency going, keeping our performances up.

"And if we can do that we will hopefully continue to pick up the points and it will get us to where we want to get to.

"The games come thick and fast but that is what the Championship is about and as a squad of players we are embracing that.

"This is also where the backroom staff at the club come into it - they will help us prepare for Saturday's trip to Burnley and keep us disciplined. We'll look forward to the game, that's for sure."
