Manager gives the latest
Manager Nigel Adkins has given an injury update ahead of the trip to Sheffield Wednesday on Saturday.
Reading went into the clash with Millwall last weekend with seven senior first team players unavailable, with Alex McCarthy and Billy Sharp the most recent visitors to the treatment room.
“Alex and Billy have managed to get on the training ground this week and do a bit more. We’re pleased about that,” said Adkins.
“There have been little bits of integration with Danny (Williams) and Royston (Drenthe) and all being well they can kick on a bit more next week. Wayne (Bridge) has trained today, he’s done the full session today so I’ll make a judgement call on that one. We’ve got the long term ones, who are still progressing through. Mikele Leigertwood, Jason Roberts, and Jem Karacan who is dealing with his situation.”
The boss had special praise for one of the club’s young pros who has been dealing with an injury setback, as Academy product Craig Tanner made his comeback from ankle surgery with a bright display for the under 21s in a victory over Luton Town this week.
“Craig has done well, he plays in that number ten position – he can see that pass and has a beautiful left foot. He got a great 45 minutes, which was planned and did ever so well. He’s a talented young football player who has had to deal with the frustration of getting out injured - Craig has been champing at the bit, desperate to be ahead of his rehabilitation stages and so we’ve had to make sure we’ve kept him in check. Steve the Academy physio has done a great job at doing that. He looks lean, he looks mean and looks in great nick. Hopefully he can get over that injury and keep looking to progress.”
