Youngsters on international dutyRoyals defender Sean Long captained the Republic of Ireland U19s to a 2-0 UEFA European Under-19 2014 Championship qualifying win over Azerbaijan in Sweden.
Long, who signed a professional contract in the summer, led the Emerald Isle to a comfortable victory and clean sheet in their first qualifier. In the second half he was joined by former Academy team mate Liam Kelly, who was substituted on after 75 minutes.
Current Royals under-18s star Kelly, scorer of a quite sensational free kick earlier this season, came off the bench and very nearly grabbed Ireland's third. In the 94th minute, Kelly saw a free kick crash against the woodwork.
Meanwhile, Reading defender Jake Cooper was an unused substitute in England U19's first qualifier, as the Three Lions drew 1-1 with Slovenia.
Also youngster Bogdan Vastsuk is involved in a U19 mini tournament for Estonia this week and their first game was a 3-1 defeat to Ukraine. Goalkeeper Jon Henly was involved in Scotland U21s qualifier with Slovakia, put did not get any game time.
