Welsh duo bag win

11 October 2013

Victory for Chris and Hal

Chris Gunter and Hal Robson-Kanu helped Wales to a 1-0 win over Macedonia on Friday evening.

Gunter kept a clean sheet playing at centre back, whilst Hal was lively throughout - and should perhaps have had a penalty awarded in the first half. Former Royal and Academy graduate Simon Church got the winner for Chris Coleman's men.

Royals full back Stephen Kelly saw his Republic of Ireland side's slim chance of World Cup qualification ended with a 3-0 against high flying Germany - with Mezut Ozil on the scoresheet.

Meanwhile Kaspars Gorkss' Latvia also suffered defeat - slipping to a 2-0 loss away to Lithuania. Chris Baird was an unused sub for Northern Ireland.

Jamaican trio Jobi McAnuff, Garath McCleary and Shaun Cummings were all called up for the Reggae Boyz' 2-0 defeat to table-topping USA. McAnuff played the full 90 minutes, Cummings was an unused substitute while McCleary missed out due to a knock.

This week young defender Sean Long captained the Republic of Ireland U19s to a 2-0 Euro qualifying win over Azerbaijan, while youngster Liam Kelly came off the bench and hit the woodwork from a free kick. In their second game, against Sweden, Long again skippered the side to a clean sheet while Kelly scored the winning goal in a 1-0 victory, a sensational strike from the half way line - you can watch it by clicking here.
