21s down rivals

10 September 2013

Reading U21s 1-0 Swindon U21s

The Royals under 21s battled to a 1-0 win over Swindon Town on Tuesday afternoon at Hogwood Park.

A bullet header from Aaron Tshibola sealed a friendly win for Reading, as the young midfielder rose well to see home captain Jake Taylor's corner kick.

It was the Robins that started brightly, cannoning a shot off the inside of Stuart Moore's post within the first minute of the encounter - but the home side recovered well to fight their way back into the game.

Tshibola steered home the game's winning goal with 20 minutes on the clock, before almost grabbing a brace seconds later - only to see another header hacked off the goal line.

Striker Dominic Samuel also came close to doubling his side's lead, but after showing good pace to dash through on goal - curled his shot inches wide of the post.

Centre back Niall Keown, watched by his father Martin, made an admirable comeback from long term injury - and will have been pleased to get 45 minutes under his belt as he was withdrawn at the break for Matt Partridge.

In the second half Moore twice saved well as Town looked to claw their way back into the game, whilst Gozie Ugwu and Royals substitute Jack Stacey were also denied by good goalkeeping.

One goal to nil it finished - and a satisfying win for Reading's up and coming prospects against their local rivals.

Reading: Moore, Long (Stacey 60), Griffin (Kelly 60), Keown (Partridge 45), Cooper, Tshibola (Kuhl 60), D'Ath, Taylor, Fosu, Samuel, Ugwu
