"A game of high energy"

Adkins relishing Leeds clash

Tonight's clash with Leeds United will be one of high tempo and high quality, and the Royals must be on top of their game - according to Royals boss Nigel Adkins.

Still in the early stages of this Sky Bet Championship campaign, United go into tonight's game still with their unbeaten record intact and will provide tough opposition for the Royals.

"We're two points behind them - we look at that, it's always going to be close," Adkins said. "They've got high energy about the team and we know we have to be at the top of our game to make sure we're in a situation where we can win the game, like every game.

"It'll be a game of high energy, high tempo and we're really looking forward to it."

The manager again praised his players for an excellent week's training at Hogwood Park, but reiterated that the hard work only matters when they take to the pitch.

"I say to the players, they are always measured on gameday. So you can train fantastically well during the week but it's on the matchday where it counts.

"All the players are important to me. They are all special in their own way, and what we've got to do is help everyone improve as an individual and as a team collectively. Keep positive about everything we do, stay in the race - that's the big thing.

"The football club, the staff, the coaching staff have all experienced getting promoted from the Championship. It's long, it's tough, mentally you've got to be bang on, it's relentless in its way and you've just got to keep positive. Just take one game at a time, grind them away and at the turn of the year give yourself an opportunity to go and win the race."
