Call-up for Cummings

5 September 2013

First nod for our defender

Our defender Shaun Cummings has been called up by Jamaica for the first time, and is away on international duty right now alongside Royals teammates Garath McCleary and Jobi McAnuff.

Cummings was in a provisional squad earlier in the season, but this is the first time he has been selected in what is new boss Winfried Schaefer's first squad, and the club would like to congratulate him on his selection.

His nation take on Panama away on Friday night in a very important game, and they then face Costa Rica at home next Tuesday. After these games they will know if they have any chance of making the World Cup.

Also away at the moment are Chris Gunter & Hal Robson-Kanu, who have two important qualifiers with Wales against Macedonia and Serbia. Both could start in Friday's away game before the second home match on Tuesday night. Their World Cup hopes have been dashed but boss Chris Coleman has emphasised the need to finish well in order to help seedings for Euro 2016.

In addition Kaspars Gorkss is flying the flag for his country, and they face Lithuania on Friday night before an away game in Greece.

A number of youth players are also away, with Jake Cooper hoping to play for England u19s away to Estonia tonight. Tariqe Fosu-Henry was on standby and Niall Keown missed out with injury.

Sean Long and Liam Kelly's Ireland u19s host Slovenia this evening, while Samuel Fridjonsson is in the Iceland u19 squad to take on Scotland tonight.

We'll have updates from tonight's games on our Twitter feed www.twitter.com/readingfc
