New signing on 'fantastic' move

New Royals signing Chris Baird is relishing the prospect of playing under Nigel Adkins, after completing his move to Madejski Stadium.

The Northern Irish international joined up with his new teammates on Friday afternoon, and was straight on the team coach to travel up to Pride Park.

“I had a great chat with him (the manager) this morning, I like what he’s trying to do with the club and I want to be part of it. He’s been great to me so far and I look forward to working under him,” said Baird.

“It feels fantastic. I wasn’t going to just jump into any silly offers, but this was the right one for me. The training ground is perfect, I live locally and it’s all good – I’m really looking forward to the game on Saturday.”

The former Southampton and Fulham man shouldn’t take too long to blend into his new surroundings – as he revealed he’s already familiar with a number of the current Reading squad.

“I know Stephen Kelly, Stuart Taylor, Pavel Pogrebnyak – quite a few of the boys actually. It makes it quite easy for me to come in and settle in straight away. I'll jump on the coach now and I’m really looking forward to it – the sooner I can get on the pitch the sooner I can settle in.”
