Guthrie commitment praised

24 September 2013

Adkins highlights midfielder

Manager Nigel Adkins gave special praise to Danny Guthrie after the midfielder declared himself fit to play against Derby on Saturday, despite a shoulder injury that was initially thought would keep him out for a number of weeks.

Guthrie showed great desire to pull on the Reading shirt and help the team, and Adkins said, "Special mention to Danny Guthrie, he injured his shoulder late on against Leeds in midweek and we thought he'd be out for a while, but Lazarus has risen!

"He put himself in contention and was outstanding again in driving the team forward.

"He deserves a big mention for that."

The former Newcastle man has started every League game this season, lining up for 708 out of a possible 720 minutes.

Only four players have started every match, and Guthrie is joined by Alex McCarthy, Alex Pearce and Sean Morrison on the ever-present list.

The 26-year-old has scored one goal this season, the winner in our opening match of the season against Ipswich.

Highlights from Saturday's game are on our YouTube channel now.
