Guthrie: Haircut stays!

28 September 2013

Playmaker pleased with good start to big week

Match winner Danny Guthrie was delighted with two goals, but more thrilled to pick up another three points at the start of an important week for the Royals.

"It was a good result. Clean sheet at home. Three points. Job done," he told Reading Player after our 2-0 victory against Birmingham City this afternoon.

The Royals playmaker had just nine league goals to his name before this afternoon, but two set pieces from his cultured right boot earned Nigel Adkins' men a comfortable victory at Madejski Stadium.

"I don't think we were at our best, but we've won. Three points is what matters.

"We're winning games and keeping clean sheets, so it's a good atmosphere around the place.

"We're on a good run but we've got to just keep plugging away. This week is a real Championship week with three tough games in quick succession - and it will be a tester for us.

"Two away games, and this is where teams who want to get promoted pick up points.

"We've got a massive week ahead and we want two more wins to take it up to nine points for the week, the maximum, and go into the international break on a high."

Asked what his thoughts were in hearing Adam Le Fondre was contemplating putting in a claim for both of his goals, Guthrie smiled and said "No chance!"

"It's always nice to score - and I don't get many! So I'm going to fight for both of them and I need to hang on to them."

Sporting a new haircut this afternoon, the midfielder has cancelled plans to shave off his mini-mohawk, explaining "I was going to shave it off tonight, but after today I think I'll keep it and see how the week goes! It was just a trial run today, but it's done wonders for me today - so I'm keeping it!"
