"Hard work a priority"

2 September 2013

Williams' recipe for success

Danny Williams believes that hard work is the key to getting promotion from the Sky Bet Championship.

The American international came off the bench to put in an impressive performance during the 1-0 win over Yeovil on Saturday, and says he is happy to prioritise success over a starting spot.

“First comes the hard work, then you play football,” said Williams.

“You could see we weren’t at our most confident after a couple of defeats, but we just have to focus on winning and that’s what happened today. Every team in the Championship is giving 100%, its tough. But I also enjoy it because its different type of play, the speed is immense. Team selection is the gaffer’s decision and I’m fine with that, I accept it and I try to work harder to start the next games.

“The most important thing is the team, I don’t look for myself. We all have the same job, I want to show the gaffer that I'd die for my teammates because I hate to lose. The most important thing is we need to be successful – that is all that counts.”

Danny has certainly settled into live with the Royals, helped with his special bond with fellow new face Royston Drenthe – and the popular duo certainly aren’t the shyest members of Nigel Adkins’ squad!

“I’ve settled into the UK now and settled into my place, and of course I still room with Royston on away trips! It’s fun to have a roommate like him, he’s crazy, and I’m crazy in my own way!! So it’s good to have a roommate like that, we motivate ourselves before games.”
