Defender deams at late victoryIt was written on the face of everyone connected with the Royals on Wednesday night at Madejski Stadium - sheer delight at a last gasp Adam Le Fondre winning goal against Leeds United.
That's how Stephen Kelly summed it up - total ecstasy for Nigel Adkins' men after a hard fought win under the lights.
"We're delighted," the Irishman told BBC Berkshire after the game. "It was nice to play in my natural position and it was great to be back in. It was a real physical match, it was actually good for us - I think we needed to be able to deal with that physical aspect.
"We've been playing good football but we need to do the tough stuff which is what this league is about, and we showed that we can do that. We can be solid, grind it out and be physical. It was a good test for us and we came through really well.
"We had the majority of the chances, a lot of crosses and headers and I think overall we deserved it. It's a huge boost for us, I think it shows that as a side we can be solid and tough as well as getting the ball down and playing. At times we played some good football and we had a number of chances of which, if we had put away, it would have been a more comfortable result - but it was a very big win for us."
And now with a trip to Derby County on the horizon, Kelly says it's all about recovering in time for our next Sky Bet Championship fixture.
"The most important thing now is recovery from having a Wednesday game before a Saturday game. We need to make sure we can come away and get ourselves prepared for that, build on the Leeds game and hopefully get a result."
