Obita thrilled with chance

Young midfielder on first league start

19-year-old Jordan Obita spoke of his delight after making his first league start for the Royals, in a fantastic 3-1 victory away at Derby County.

The lively midfielder, who impressed in a central midfield role at Pride Park, hailed manager Nigel Adkins for handing young players like Jordan a chance in the first team.

"I'm really happy to have played my Championship debut, and I thought the team and I did really well. It was really positive that we got the win," he told Reading FC Player.

"When I was younger I used to play in central midfield but I can play out wide too because I'm fairly quick. I've told the manager I want to play in the middle of the pitch so I get more on the ball and try and be a play-maker.

"It was great to start the game, and Aaron Tshibola was on the bench too. It's really good that he's stuck to what he said and give the youngsters a chance. We've got to prove we're good enough, and I thought I did well so hopefully I can get another chance.

The Royals following at Pride Park sung Jordan's name loud and clear when we was replaced by Shaun Cummings after 78 minutes, which clearly meant a lot to the Academy graduate.

"It was really nice feeling to hear the support from the fans - they are great fans and hopefully the next week can be the same," the youngster added.
