Adkins on two-goal frontman
Nigel Adkins was delighted to see Pavel Pogrebnyak score two important goals at Derby last weekend, and says the big striker has a fresh start as the 'unsettling' transfer window has closed.
Adkins said, "It's been a challenge for him but the transfer window closing gave him a fresh start. He contributed at the weekend, like several of the players did.
"With the window open, there was speculation about him every day. That can unsettle anybody - which country are you going to, all sorts of different things go on. But the window is closed so you're here, you've got an opportunity to play.
"Sometimes you need a break, a re-emphasis, and sitting down to speak to players also goes a long way. We've gone and done that, you try to help everyone improve, understand their situation and get the best out of them.
"Like I say, he came to the party for us and scored two goals. It's been frustrating for him, obviously the positive nature of the transfer window now closing, he's put a good performance in, as several of the players did.
"We're pleased [with him]. I've said it a few times, he's been working hard on the training ground, like all the players. We spend a lot of time on the training ground, we've got excellent coaches endeavouring to improve the players all the time. But you're measured on game day."
