Serious injury for Karacan

Adkins on midfield blow

Nigel Adkins has confirmed that midfielder Jem Karacan is likely to be out for a long time with a serious knee injury.

Jem was stretchered off in our 1-0 home win against Leeds, having shown typical desire to get back and make a challenge as Leeds broke forward.

It is a bitter pill for our 24-year-old Academy product, who the boss says has all the attributes to be 'the modern day midfielder.'

Adkins said, "It was a massive blow losing Jem so early in the game, he's been outstanding for us this season. His passing has been top drawer, so too his energy and drive. It's a big blow because it looks like he'll be out for a long time. We'll look after him, he's one of our own and has come through the system, he's important to us.

"It's a knee injury, we'll assess it fully, we've got our suspicions but that won't be public at the moment, we'll get a proper diagnosis. It's fair to say it's a serious one.

"He works so hard, his range of passing and desire to get around the pitch, for me he is only getting to get better, he's flourishing and has been outstanding.

"It's a big blow for him because he has a bright future. He's been developing into the whole package of the modern day midfielder. Now he'll do the rehab and come back stronger."

Jem did of course also suffer an ankle injury the last time we played Leeds United, and came back to full fitness in exceptional time.
